The Millinery Association of Australia (MAA) has been working very hard with the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) to promote the art of millinery at this year’s Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Four new classes were introduced as part of the Arts and Crafts Competition this year, including:
- Spring Millinery – handmade hat or headpiece in the spirit of Spring Racing
- Winter Millinery
- Themed Wearable Millinery – Avant Garde. Exhibitors are encouraged to think along the following lines; daring, defying conventions, innovation, mixing fashion and art, experimental, cutting edge, intriguing, striking, unusual, interesting, sophisticated, and has a strong personality.
- Student Millinery
In addition to the new millinery classes, the MAA will have a feature display of members hats in the Arts and Crafts Pavillion. The showcase is themed around a Garden Party and will include my entry from last year’s Melbourne Cup FOYFL Millinery Award as well as many other amazing pieces made by members of the MAA.

The display will be manned by milliners from the MAA including myself. We will be taking questions, talking about all things millinery and doing demonstrations of the hat making process, so make sure you drop by and take a look! I will be working the stand on Good Friday, 2 April between 8:30am to 1pm. I hope to see you there!
Happy Easter!
